U.S. Rights groups launch campaign pressuring Congress over West Bank violence

RAMALLAH, June 19, 2026 (WAFA) – Human rights organizations and activists in the United States have launched a campaign to pressure members of Congress to take concrete steps to address the escalating violations committed by the Israeli occupation against Palestinians in the West Bank, amid a surge in killings, arrests, and settlement expansion.

According to reports, the campaign centers on the death of seven-month-old Palestinian infant Sam Fahd Abu Haikal in Hebron, an incident that has sparked outrage among rights groups and advocates for Palestinian rights. Organizers argue that the case reflects a broader pattern of increasing violence affecting Palestinians across the West Bank.

The campaign organizers called on members of the House of Representatives and the Senate to adopt a firmer stance against settlement expansion and colonist violence, and to work to protect Palestinian civilians. They emphasized that the continuation of the current situation threatens the prospects for peace and exacerbates the suffering of Palestinians.

The campaign also urged members of Congress to reject bills that strengthen US-Israeli military cooperation, impose sanctions on colonists  involved in acts of violence against Palestinians, and condemn settlement expansion in the West Bank.
