JEDDAH, August 28, 2026 (WAFA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Varsen Aghabekian Shahin today briefed her Libyan and Sierra Leonean counterparts on developments in Palestine and the escalation of Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

She particularly highlighted the killing and destruction in the Gaza Strip, the blocking of humanitarian aid, the closure of crossings, and the deteriorating humanitarian and medical conditions.

During the meeting, held in the presence of Ambassador Hadi Shibli, Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Shahin reviewed the actions of the Israeli occupation authorities in the occupied West Bank. These include Judaization, colonial expansion, colonist attacks, and the displacement of Palestinians, as well as attacks targeting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), most recently at its Kalandia center.

She also reviewed the risks posed by the implementation of the colonial E1 project, which would separate the northern and southern parts of the occupied West Bank, isolate Jerusalem, and undermine the possibility of establishing an independent, geographically contiguous, viable, and sovereign Palestinian state.

Shahin stressed the need to activate the Islamic financial safety net and implement the decisions adopted by the Islamic ministerial meetings and summits.

For their part, the foreign ministers of Libya and Sierra Leone stressed the need to move from statements and declarations to practical measures to end the occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state, with Jerusalem as its capital.
