Foreign Minister Malki calls on China to play a more vital role in Palestinian peace efforts

BEIJING, April 13, 2017 (WAFA) – Foreign Minister Riyad Maliki Thursday called on China to play a more vital role in supporting the Palestinian cause in all international forums.

This came during Malki’s meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, in Beijing.

The meeting focused on political developments in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the region and internationally.

Malki briefed his Chinese counterpart on political and diplomatic efforts to revive the stalled peace process between the Palestinians and the Israelis and the US administration’s peace effort ahead of the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and President Mahmoud Abbas next month in Washington, expressing hope that the US would play a balanced and constructive role in the peace process.

He also spoke on the continuous Israeli violations against the Palestinians, especially Jewish settlements’ expansion in Palestinian territories, to which Wang responded by affirming the necessity of finding a just and comprehensive solution to the conflict.

Wang said that 70 years after the United Nations resolution partitioning Palestine into a Jewish and Arab states, the Palestinians are still stateless.

"This is unfair," he said at a press conference with Malki. "This kind of historical injustice must be corrected. It cannot continue."

Both sides agreed to continue with their contacts and coordination in the future through the formation of a joint Palestinian-Chinese committee and through supporting the establishment of industrial zones in Palestine.
