Occupation forces severely beat, detain workers at Isawiya checkpoint in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, June 8, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces severely beat and detained a number of workers on Monday evening at the Isawiya military checkpoint, east of occupied Jerusalem, as they attempted to reach their workplaces inside the city, the Jerusalem Governorate said.

In a statement, the Jerusalem Governorate said that occupation forces intercepted a group of workers at the Isawiya checkpoint, subjecting them to severe beatings during their detention. This resulted in injuries to several workers, though precise details regarding the nature of their injuries or health status remain unavailable.

The Governorate added that these practices fall within a systematic policy targeting Palestinian workers by restricting their movement and depriving them of their right to work and travel. This is enforced through tight restrictions and stringent measures on entering occupied Jerusalem, alongside repeated pursuit and arrest at military checkpoints.

The Governorate emphasized that targeting and assaulting workers while they seek to secure their livelihood constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and international conventions that guarantee the right to work and freedom of movement.
