PPS reports unprecedented rise in detention of women in the West Bank

RAMALLAH, June 8, 2026 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) said Monday that detentions of women in the occupied West Bank have risen sharply and in an unprecedented manner, noting that the number of female detainees in Israeli prisons and detention centers has reached around 95.

The group said the increase followed the detetnion of three women earlier on Monday from the towns of Kobar northwest of Ramallah, Jenin, and the Ein Camp in Nablus, including the wife of a detained prisoner. It added that four female students from Birzeit University, including a graduate, were detained last week and transferred to the Moscobiya detention center, along with a woman from Ramallah with a physical disability.

PPS added that reports and testimonies indicate escalating abuses against female detainees, including severe beatings, humiliation, and systematic mistreatment during detention operations.
