JENIN, June 8, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli forces on Monday began demolishing 20 Palestinian homes in the town of Barta’a, southwest of Jenin, in the northern occupied West Bank.
Ghassan Qabha, mayor of Barta’a, told WAFA that an Israeli court had issued a ruling on Sunday ordering the demolition of 20 homes in the southern section of the town. Israeli bulldozers arrived at the town’s entrance on Monday to carry out the order.
Qabha said that lawyers representing the municipality and affected residents submitted an appeal to the court earlier in the day, but the appeal was rejected, clearing the way for the demolition of all 20 homes.
He added that residents of eight of the targeted houses had managed to remove their belongings, while occupants of the remaining homes refused to evacuate their possessions.
According to Qabha, the 20 homes shelter approximately 100 people, who face displacement and homelessness as a result of the demolitions.
As demolition vehicles entered the area, residents climbed onto the rooftops of the threatened homes in protest of the planned demolition campaign.
