RAMALLAH, June 2, 2015 (WAFA) –
The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused in their Tuesday issue on remarks expressed
by Germany’s Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier during a visit to the besieged
Gaza Strip.
Steinmeier was quoted as saying
that the situation in Gaza is a “powder keg” that is liable to explode at any
time, stressing that the status quo in Gaza is no longer sustainable.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted
in its main headline that the Israeli government has allocated some $17 million
to “Judaize” Jerusalem, adding that six other “Judaization” bills will be referred
for approval to the Israeli Knesset in the near future.
Al-Ayyam quoted Israeli
‘Defense’ Minister Moshe Ya’alon, who denied the existence of any links between
Steinmeier’s visit to Gaza and talks on restoring the remains of Israeli
soldiers who were killed in Gaza during 2014 aggression.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said
the medical condition of prisoner Khader Adnan, who has been on hunger strike
for 28 days in Isareli jails, has significantly deteriorated. Adnan is hunger
striking against his solitary confinement imposed by the Israeli Prison
Service.
Al-Ayyam quoted Prime Minister
Rami Hamdallah, who said the United States administration had promised to
revive peace talks between Palestinians and Israelis upon concluding a nuclear
deal with Iran.
Al-Quds reported on Hamdallah who
added that the government is committed to achieving sustainable development and
creating an independent national economy.
Al-Ayyam, on the other hand,
opted to quote deputy Hamas leader Ismail Haniya, who said that the government
has failed to meet its commitments.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said an
Israeli court in Jerusalem sentenced a Palestinian from the city to 10 months
in prison for alleged “incitement” on the social network, Facebook.
It said the Hamas de facto
authorities in Gaza imposed a new fine (25%) at cars exports to Gaza.
Al-Ayyam said the Israeli
Ministerial Committee submitted a draft bill to the Knesset to ban phone calls
between Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and the outside.
