RAMALLAH, June 1, 2015 (WAFA) – The recently approved Israeli bill
that would see Palestinian protestors who throw stones at settlers’ vehicles
moving within the occupied West Bank jailed up to 10 years dominated the front
page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
Covering the bill in its main front page news item, al-Quds
reported that an Israeli ministerial committee approved two bills against
Palestinians.
It added that the two bills would impose severe penalties against Palestinians
who throw stones and would deprive the detainees from the right to contact
their families. Al-Hayat al-Jadida named the bill as ‘Stone children’ bill.
Al-Ayyam opted to cover Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s
remarks during a press conference with visiting German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
It reported on Netanyahu who demanded
that Palestinians stop what he labeled as “a campaign to delegitimize Israel”
and recognize Israel as a Jewish state. He stated that the problem does not lie
in settlement construction, but in security arrangements.
Covering Palestinian Prime Minister
Rami Hamdallah’s meeting with Steinmeier in Ramallah, al-Quds quoted Hamallah:
“The international community reaffirmed that Palestinian institutions are ready
for statehood.”
Al-Ayyam highlighted Hamdallah who
called on Germany to recognize the Palestinian state.
Reporting on the same issue, al-Hayat
al-Jadida added that Steinmeier would make visit the Gaza Strip on Monday and
quoted him: “The peace process could not last forever.”
Al-Quds said that the Israeli public
prosecution nullified a procedure that allows the expansion of ‘state land’ in
the West Bank without making any announcement.
It reported that Israeli settlers set
fire to a Palestinian home in Hebron and forced their way into Al-Aqsa Mosque
compound.
It added that Israeli forces sealed
entrances lleading to Nablus and stormed greenhouses in Marj Ibn ‘Amer.
In the wake of Chairman of Palestinian
Football Association Jibril Rajoub’s suspension of the proposal to suspend
Israel’s membership in FIFA, al-Ayyam quoted Israeli Foreign Ministry sources
as saying: “We lack the tools necessary to confront the political uprising.”
Responding to reports claiming that
Rajoub voted for FIFA Chairman Sepp Blatter, al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on
Jordan’s Prince Ali Bin al-Hussein as refuting such reports.
Price ‘Ali was quoted as announcing:
“The Palestinian people are our people and Rjoub has supported us.”
Reporting on the same issue, it quoted
Jordanian parliamentarian Yahya al-S‘oud as denying reports that he has
requested that Jordanian citizenship, also known as the national number’, be
revoked from Rajoub.
Al-Quds reported that Palestinian activists
in Gaza have marked five years since Israel’s attack on the first Freedom
Flotilla in 2010 and welcomed Freedom Flotilla III.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam printed a photo
featuring Palestinian activists aboard a boat sailing near Gaza seaport raising
flags of Palestine and Lebanon.
Covering the Ad-Hoc Liaison
Committee’s meeting with major donors in Brussels, al-Ayyam reported on the
AHLC: “The Palestinians will need high levels of budget assistance during the
coming years.”
