CARACAS,
August 13, 2014 (WAFA) – The Government of Venezuela opened on Wednesday an air
corridor to allow humanitarian aids into the Gaza Strip, said a statement by
the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The
statement said the first airplane took off from the Caracas International
Airport at 13:41 (Venezuela Time) and is expected to land at Ismailia Airport
in Egypt, whereas other aid planes are expected to take off during the coming
days.
Earlier
this Wednesday, Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elias Jaua, received
his Palestinian counterpart, Riyad al-Maliki, in Caracas and discussed the
recent Israeli aggression on Gaza, in addition to Venezuela’s efforts to
dispatch humanitarian aids and relief supplies to Gaza.
Following
their meeting, both ministers headed to Caracas Airport, where Jaua made a
symbolic handover of the humanitarian aids to his Palestinian counterpart.
Al-Maliki
expressed his appreciation to Venezuela, on behalf of the Palestinian people
and leadership, for its honorable stance towards the Palestinian cause and
righteous issue. He also praised the position of the Latin American countries
towards the Israeli aggression on Gaza
