UNRWA and Palestinian Authority receive €202 million of support to ensure key services on the ground - European Commission

BRUSSELS, June 23, 2025 (WAFA) - The European Commission is stepping up its support to the Palestinian people by allocating a total of €202 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency in the Near East (UNRWA) and the Palestinian Authority under the Comprehensive and Multiannual Programme for Palestine's Recovery and Resilience, said a press release issued by the commission.

It said that €150 million has been allocated to support the Palestinian Authority in ensuring the delivery of key public services, including the payment of salaries of teachers, civil servants and healthcare workers. The financial support is linked to the implementation of the reform agenda. UNRWA received a contribution of €52 million to support the delivery of critical services, including education, primary healthcare and relief assistance to Palestinian refugees across the Gaza Strip, West Bank and hosting countries such as Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.

Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica, said: “Our support to the Palestinian people remains steadfast. With this disbursement of €202 million to the Palestinian Authority and the UN Agency UNRWA, we reaffirm our unwavering political and financial commitment. This is part of a broader EU package of assistance, underscoring our continued backing of UNRWA's role as both humanitarian and development actor. The EU is deeply concerned about the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza and the worsening conditions in the West Bank. We remain firmly committed to a just and lasting peace, grounded in a negotiated Two-State solution.”

These first disbursements are part of the broader package of a total of €1.6 billion for 2025-2027 outlined at the EU - Palestinian Authority High-Level Political Dialogue.
