Algeria condemns Colombia’s opening of embassy in occupied Jerusalem, considers it a violation of international law

ALGIERS, October 14, 2026 (WAFA) – Algeria expressed its condemnation of the Colombian government’s decision to open an embassy in occupied Jerusalem.

In a statement issued by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, Algeria described the decision as unacceptable, saying it falls within repeated illegal attempts to alter the legal and historical status of Jerusalem and impose a fait accompli in flagrant violation of international law and relevant international resolutions.

The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that this illegal step would undermine the two-state solution endorsed by the international community, fuel conflict in the region, and hamper efforts to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable peace in the Middle East.

Algeria renewed its call on the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to shoulder its legal, moral and historical responsibilities and take urgent action to halt repeated policies aimed at imposing a new, illegal reality in the occupied Palestinian Territory.
