RAMALLAH, October 14, 2026 (WAFA) — Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa discussed on Wednesday labar market conditions in Palestine with Luc Triangle, General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), including employment challenges and rising unemployment across the West Bank and Gaza Strip amid the severe economic, social, and security consequences of Israeli occupation measures and the ongoing war on Gaza.
During a meeting at his office in Ramallah, attended by Minister of Labour Enas Attari, Secretary-General of the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions Shaher Saad, and several trade union representatives, Mustafa discussed the challenges facing Palestinian workers, particularly occupation restrictions and measures preventing them from reaching their workplaces.
He called for greater international pressure to enable workers to return to their jobs after being barred from their workplaces for the past three years and to ensure that they receive their outstanding financial entitlements.
Prime Minister Mustafa outlined the Government’s efforts to create new employment opportunities and develop workers’ skills in line with the evolving needs of the labour market. He also highlighted efforts to keep pace with technological advancements and expand digital transformation across various sectors, thereby improving operational efficiency, enhancing public services, and unlocking new avenues for employment.
Mustafa stressed the importance of investing in human capital, strengthening partnerships with international institutions and trade union federations, and supporting the Government’s efforts to combat unemployment, create jobs, safeguard workers’ rights, promote equality in the labour market, and harness human and technological capabilities to advance economic development.
For his part, ITUC General Secretary Luc Triangle affirmed the Confederation’s support for the State of Palestine in international forums and its continued commitment to defending Palestinian workers’ rights, promoting decent working conditions that uphold their dignity, improving their living conditions, and maintaining cooperation and coordination on issues of mutual concern.
