CAIRO, July 19, 2026 (WAFA) – Egypt welcomed the Belgian federal government's decision to ban imports of goods and products originating from Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem.
Egypt’s foreign ministry reaffirmed that this step supports the values of justice and represents a practical and responsible application of the principles of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolution 2334, which affirms that settlement activities are illegal and calls for their immediate cessation to avoid undermining the prospects for peace and the Two-State solution.
Stemming from its steadfast and unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, Egypt urged all European Union member states and the international community to follow Belgium's lead and take similar legal measures to ban settlements’ products.
Egypt further reiterated that achieving security and peace in the Middle East will solely be feasible through putting an end to the occupation and empowering the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights to self-determination, mainly the establishment of their independent and sovereign state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
