Jerusalem national figure released after hours-long interrogation by Israeli intelligence

JERUSALEM, July 21, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation authorities on Tuesday afternoon released Major General Bilal Natsheh, Secretary-General of the Jerusalem National Popular Conference, after hours-long interrogation at the al-Maskobiya detention and interrogation center in occupied Jerusalem.

According to lawyer Ahmad Safiya, the interrogation focused on Natsheh’s national and social activities in Jerusalem, as well as his efforts to follow up on programs supporting Jerusalemite students and assisting them in continuing their education at Palestinian universities.

The lawyer said Israeli authorities released Natsheh under conditions, including prohibiting him from carrying out any activity that Israeli authorities consider to represent the Palestinian leadership in Jerusalem.

This measure comes as part of an ongoing Israeli policy targeting Palestinian national figures, leaders, and institutions operating in Jerusalem through summonses, interrogations, and administrative restrictions, in an effort to limit any official or national Palestinian presence in the occupied city.

The restrictions imposed on Natsheh are part of broader Israeli measures aimed at curbing Palestinian political and official presence in East Jerusalem, which international law recognizes as part of the occupied Palestinian Territory since 1967.
