TEL AVIV, July 22, 2026 (WAFA) – The Israeli military has expanded its control in the Gaza Strip hundreds of meters beyond the so-called "Yellow Line," increasing the area under its control to about 65 percent of the Strip, according to an investigation published on Wednesday by the Israeli daily Haaretz based on recent satellite imagery.
According to the investigation, the expansion consists largely of an earthen berm and trench system extending several kilometers into the Gaza Strip.
Satellite images showed that the expansion currently extends hundreds of meters beyond the "Yellow Line" at two locations in southern Gaza. In Khan Younis, part of it extends about 400 meters beyond the "Yellow Line" along Salah al-Din Road, while in Rafah, it exceeds the "Yellow Line" by about 1,300 meters at one point.
Haaretz said the Israeli military has gradually shifted the yellow markers marking the line westward, effectively increasing the area under its control.
The report also said the establishment of the so-called "Orange Line" and coordination requirements imposed on humanitarian organizations have expanded Israeli control to around 65 percent of the Gaza Strip.
The newspaper added that the Israeli military has established at least three new bases in the Gaza Strip in recent months, including one in the central camps area, another on the ruins of Bani Suheila, and a third near the coast and the Egyptian border.
