JERUSALEM, May 25, 2025 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces deployed metal barricades around Damascus Gate, the main entrance to Jerusalem’s Old City, on Sunday afternoon in preparation for securing the provocative “Flag March” planned by Israeli colonists for Monday.
The march is set to begin at Al-Buraq Square and pass through Damascus Gate and Al-Wad Street, which are densely populated by Palestinians in the Old City.
The Jerusalem Governorate warned of a potential escalation in the city, as Israeli authorities proceed with a series of colonist-led events aimed at asserting Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem and entrenching the occupation, in clear violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions.
In a recent statement, the Governorate stressed that this annual march is part of a systematic, provocative agenda, often accompanied by assaults on Palestinian residents, racist chants against Muslims and Christians, and heavy police protection. A full closure of the area is expected to begin at 12:30 p.m. local time on Monday.
The frequency of extremist colonists’ incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque has sharply increased since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on Gaza on October 7.
