LONDON, Sunday, May 26, 2024 (WAFA) — In an interview with The Sunday Times, International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor Karim Khan has said that "nobody has a license to commit war crimes or crimes against humanity. The means define us."
He addressed a number of accusations against Israel, which include "the fact that water was cut off... that people queuing to get food were targeted, and that people from relief agencies were killed."
Khan said in an interview with the British newspaper, which was reported by Agence France-Presse, "This is not the way in which war should be waged."
"If this is what compliance with international humanitarian law looks like, then the Geneva Conventions serve no purpose," he added.
"It is a dangerous moment internationally, and unless we adhere to the law, we will have nothing to adhere to," he added.
"Countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia are closely monitoring the situation to see if global institutions will seek to preserve international law," Khan continued.
Khan's statements came in response to a question related to his request to issue arrest warrants against the Prime Minister of the Israeli occupation government Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Galant on charges of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The warrants, if approved by the ICC judges, mean that each of the 124 countries joining the court will be technically obligated to arrest Netanyahu and others against whom warrants are issued if they approach it.
