CEC invites international observer bodies to observe the legislative elections and launches accreditation for observation and the media

RAMALLAH, August 17, 2026 (WAFA) - The Central Elections Commission (CEC) sent official invitations to all diplomatic missions to Palestine, as well as international and Arab organizations specializing in democracy and elections, to participate in observing the 2026 Legislative Elections.

The invitations come as part of the CEC’s preparations to expand participation in election observation and enhance the transparency and credibility of the electoral process.

To facilitate procedures for its partners, the CEC clarified that it has decided to accredit all media outlets, journalists, local observer bodies, and their observers who were previously accredited for the latest Local Elections for the current Legislative Elections, without the need to submit a new accreditation application. The CEC will issue new accreditation cards for the 2026 Legislative Elections, featuring its branding theme.

Furthermore, the CEC invited civil society organizations (CSOs) and local observer bodies that have not previously been accredited to apply to participate in observing the various stages of the electoral process, emphasizing that all parties interested in observing the elections in accordance with the approved procedures and standards are welcome.

The CEC reiterated that both international and local election observation, as well as media coverage, are key elements in enhancing the integrity and transparency of elections.

It also emphasized its commitment to providing an appropriate environment for observers and journalists, enabling them to monitor the various stages of the electoral process in accordance with the law and approved procedures.

Moreover, the CEC invited observer bodies, media outlets, journalists, and all interested parties to follow the CEC’s website and official social media platforms for information on accreditation procedures, legal deadlines, instructions, and any other updates relevant to the electoral process.

The CEC stressed that transparency and openness to election observation and media coverage are key approaches in managing the electoral process. “These approaches enhance public trust and confidence and allow various bodies and parties to monitor the different stages of the electoral process professionally and independently,” it said.
