2024 Oscars: Celebrities, movie stars calls for Gaza ceasefire

CALIFORNIA, Monday, March 11, 2024 (WAFA) – Several high-profile Hollywood celebrities and movie stars came in full force to voice support and solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip by calling for a ceasefire on the 2024 Oscars red carpet.

While everyone was curious what the stars were going to wear for the major entertainment event, which took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California on March 10, 2024, a number of celebrities made sure to include a certain accessory that showed their calls for a ceasefire in Gaza.

American Grammy winner Billie Eilish, her brother Finneas O’Connell and Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo along with actor Ramy Youssef and others wore red pins representing Artists4Ceasefire, five months into a brutal military aggression that Israel has launched against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.

'Artists 4 Ceasefire' is a letter that was signed by a lot of singers, actors, comedians and public figures in Hollywood.

It urged US President Joe Biden's administration to 'call for and facilitate a ceasefire without delay – an end to the bombing of Gaza.'

The pins feature an orange hand with a black heart inside, surrounded by a red circle.

“The pin symbolizes collective support for an immediate and permanent cease-fire,” the group said in a press release. “It symbolizes collective support the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.”

Speaking about the meaning of the pin, which is a red circle with a silhouette of a hand with a heart in it, Youssef told Deadline. “This is for Artists for Ceasefire… We have a growing list of so many artists who want a permanent immediate ceasefire in Gaza,” the actor added.

“To get really universal about it, it’s about stop killing kids,” Youseff continued. “We’re using our voices to speak to people’s hearts… We want people to have safety and justice.”

“It’s obviously something a lot of people have a lot of opinions about, and I think there can be a place and time to process feelings,” the actor added. “The best time to process feelings is when there isn’t active violence happening. So, we need to stop the violence. we need to stop the bombing.”

Other stars who donned the pin on the red carpet were Eugene Lee Yang, Misan Harriman, and Kaouther Ben Hania.

According to The New York Time, actors Tony Shalhoub and Ebon Moss-Bachrach sported the pins at Screen Actors Guild Awards.
