GAZA, Sunday, May 29, 2022 (WAFA) – Fishermen and farmers in the Gaza Strip today came under Israeli gunfire forcing them to leave their work areas for a safe haven, reported WAFA correspondent.

He said Israeli navy boats opened fire at fishermen sailing off the north shores of the Gaza Strip, forcing them to leave the sea and return to the shore.

In Khan Younis, in the south of the Gaza Strip, Israeli soldiers manning the perimeter fence opened fire at shepherds east of al-Qarara town, who also had to leave the area to avoid being hit.

Israeli soldiers stationed at a military watchtower east of Gaza City opened gunfire and fired tear gas canisters at farmers working in their lands, forcing them to leave the area. Another Israeli gunfire attack was also reported east of Gaza City.

No one was reported injured in any of the incidents.

Israel does not allow landowners and shepherds to be in the open pastures and lands near the border fence and tries to create a buffer zone at the expense of the Gaza lands.

Fishermen are also not allowed to go deeper than six nautical miles into the sea in the south of the Gaza Strip and only three nautical miles in the north. But even then, fishermen are still attacked even if they stay within their marked zones.

The Gaza Strip has been under tight Israeli sea, land and air siege since 2007.
