General strike observed in Bethlehem in mourning of the Israeli army killing of a 14-year-old Palestinian

BETHLEHEM, Saturday, May 28, 2022 (WAFA) – Shops and businesses remained shuttered this morning in the southern West Bank biblical city of Bethlehem in mourning of the Israeli army killing yesterday of 14-year-old Zaid Ghuneim, reported WAFA correspondent.

He said the local leadership has called for the general strike until after Ghuneim is laid to rest in the town of al-Khader, south of Bethlehem, planned for early afternoon.

Ghuneim was shot in the back and neck and killed, according to the Ministry of Health.

Eyewitnesses said Ghuneim was surprised by the presence of Israeli occupation soldiers in the town, and that as he tried to hide in a parking garage but he was targeted by the Israeli soldiers who fired live bullets at him and killed him in cold blood.

Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh has condemned the killing of Ghuneim, describing it as “a premeditated execution,” and "an act of terrorism,” calling on the international community to put into force international resolutions to boycott Israel and ensure that the perpetrators do not go unpunished.

The Israeli army killed five Palestinian minors this month alone and 13 total since the start of the year.
