Serbian President says his country will not move its embassy to Jerusalem

BELGRADE, Monday, October 11, 2021 (WAFA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad Al-Maliki met Sunday with President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic at the Presidential Palace.

The Serbian president started his first meetings with the delegations participating in the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, which celebrates the sixtieth anniversary of its founding.

President Vucic expressed happiness for the participation of Palestine in this ministerial meeting, and asked to convey his greetings to President Mahmoud Abbas, wishing him continued health and success.

He also stressed that his country will not move its embassy to Jerusalem and is fully committed to international law and international legitimacy.

He as well welcomed the deepening of his country's relations with Palestine, expressing willingness to see the Serbian-Palestinian Joint Committee meet at the ministerial level soon.

For his part, Minister al-Malki thanked President Vucic for receiving him and distinguishing him among the first delegations, which reflects the depth of the relationship between the two countries.

He also appreciated the Serbian president's vision of its importance and the need to work on deepening it within proposed mechanisms, including political consultation at the level of the two ministries of foreign affairs, as well as the start of the work of the joint ministerial committee.

He also conveyed to the Serbian President the greetings of President Mahmoud Abbas, assuring him of the consistency of the vision regarding the role that the Non-Aligned Movement should play in the next stage, and the readiness of Palestine to work with Serbia to accomplish this task.

The top Palestinian diplomat also touched on the new Israeli government’s position on the issue of negotiations and the two-state solution in addition to Israel’s rejection to negotiate with Palestine, recognize the Palestinians' right to freedom and independence through self-determination and the two-state solution.
