Newspapers Review: Dailies highlight the aftermath of the Israeli aggression on Gaza

RAMALLAH, Saturday, May 22, 2021 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today highlighted the aftermath of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip with each of the newspapers highlighting a different topic.

Al-Ayyam daily said in its main front-page story that bodies of 14 people were dug out from two tunnels bombarded by Israel and the body of a child was dug out from under the rubble of her family home, as the search continues for more people buried under the rubble.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida daily said in its main headline that the Israeli occupation forces raided Al-Aqsa Mosque and attacked worshippers as dozens of people were injured in the clashes throughout the West Bank.

The third daily, al-Quds, said in the main headline: Palestine celebrates the victory as Israelis admit defeat. It printed a large picture of the thousands of people celebrating the end of the war on Gaza at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

Al-Quds included several stories of reactions to the ceasefire and what is expected to happen after that, as well as evaluation of the 11-day Israeli onslaught.

It said an Egyptian security delegation left Gaza through Erez/Beit Hanoun crossing between Gaza and Israel after three hours of talks in Gaza in an effort to strengthen the ceasefire.

Al-Ayyam also had similar reactions and stories and quoted Turkish President Erdogan saying that the world should realize Israel's nature as a terrorist state.

It said UN experts have called for investigating Israeli violations against civilians in Gaza.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on the phone calls between President Mahmoud Abbas and the Saudi monarch, on one hand, and the US Secretary of State, on the other, during which the President said peace and security come only through a political solution that would end the Israeli occupation.

It said the presidency condemned the Israeli attack on Al-Aqsa Mosque.
