Foreign Ministry: No legitimacy for alleged embassy in occupied Jerusalem

RAMALLAH, June 15, 2026 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the opening of an alleged embassy by the so-called "Somaliland" in the occupied city of Jerusalem.

In a statement issued on Monday evening, the Foreign Ministry considered this step a flagrant violation of international law and relevant resolutions of international legitimacy.

It described it as an attempt by the Israeli occupation and the authorities of the so-called Somaliland to legitimize their presence on land where they hold no legal or political right, standing in direct violation of international law and consensus.

The Ministry affirmed that any diplomatic or political measures or arrangements, or any changes to the status or position of the city of Jerusalem, or its geography and demography, are null and void, carry no legal effect, and do not alter its internationally recognized legal status.

It stressed that any country or entity opening diplomatic missions or embassies in occupied Jerusalem represents a violation of Security Council resolutions, particularly resolutions 476 and 478. It added that such actions encourage the occupation's colonial and expansionist policies and the daily crimes resulting from them against the Palestinian people.

Furthermore, the Ministry expressed its rejection of the occupation authorities' alleged recognition of Somaliland, while voicing its full support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the brotherly Federal Republic of Somalia.

It renewed its call to the international community and all nations to abide by United Nations resolutions relevant to the Palestinian cause and the issue of Jerusalem.

The Ministry urged countries to refrain from taking any steps or measures that would assist or encourage the occupation power in violating international law, and to take the necessary measures to protect the legal and historical status of occupied Jerusalem as an integral part of the Palestinian territory occupied in 1967, and the capital of the State of Palestine.
