VALLETTA, August 26, 2026 (WAFA) -- The Republic of Malta on Wednesday condemned the Israeli colonial E1 plan in the occupied West Bank, said Palestinian Ambassador to Malta Fadi Hanania following a meeting with Maltese Foreign Minister Chris Fearne.
Hanania affirmed that Malta condemned the colonial plan and continued to support the Palestinian people in accordance with international resolutions aimed at implementing the two-state solution to ensure stability in the region.
Meanwhile, Fearne said Malta had joined the Leaders' Statement on the Israeli colonial plan in the E1 area of the West Bank, which called on the Israeli government to immediately withdraw the plan and halt colonial expansion.
The Maltese Foreign Minister added that Malta strongly opposes illegal Israeli colonies and supports imposing trade restrictions on products originating from Israeli colonies.
Fearne said Malta would provide additional financial assistance to the health sector and humanitarian organizations, as well as educational opportunities for Palestinian youth.
During the meeting, Ambassador Hanania briefed Fearne on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, warning of the dangerous escalation carried out by the Israeli occupation, including the growing attacks by Israeli colonists against the Palestinian people and their property under the protection of Israeli occupation forces, as well as colonial expansion and land seizure.
He highlighted the dangers of implementing the E1 colonial project, which seeks to undermine the territorial contiguity of the State of Palestine and isolate Jerusalem from Palestinian cities and communities.
Hanania thanked the Maltese government for its support for the rights of the Palestinian people, stressing the importance of intensifying international partners' efforts to advance the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, ensure the entry of sufficient humanitarian and relief aid to meet urgent needs, secure the full withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces, and launch the recovery and reconstruction process.
He also urged Malta to stand on the side of justice and humanity by defending the rights of Palestinians to freedom and independence.
