JERUSALEM, August 26, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli municipality began work on Wednesday inside the Qalandiya Vocational Training Institute, run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), in Kafr Aqab, north of occupied Jerusalem.
The Jerusalem Governorate said Israeli municipal technical crews entered the institute and began what they described as “maintenance and renovation” work inside its buildings, in preparation for receiving students.
It added that this work is part of preparations to establish an educational complex within the institute for the benefit of the Israeli municipality in Jerusalem, a move that reinforces the occupation's control over the institute and begins its actual use for colonial Judaization purposes.
Israeli forces continued to occupy and control the institute for a second consecutive day after evacuating it on Tuesday.
The institute was established as the first UNRWA center in Palestine in 1952, on an area of 80 dunams. It includes training workshops, classrooms, dormitories and administrative buildings. It receives hundreds of students annually from West Bank camps. Currently, its students number around 270, distributed across 16 professional specializations, and the number of its graduates annually ranges between 250 and 300 graduates.
