RAMALLAH, Thursday, April 22, 2021 (WAFA) – The visit by the Jordan foreign minister, Ayman Safadi, to Ramallah and his meeting with President Mahmoud Abbas was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida daily said the president received the Jordanian foreign minister carrying a message from King Abdullah.
Al-Quds daily said the message dealt with the latest political developments in the region, while the third daily, al-Ayyam, said Jordan has confirmed that the Palestinian cause was and will continue to be the core and that Jerusalem is a red line for Jordan and Palestine.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida also quoted presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh stressing that Jerusalem is a red line, while al-Ayyam quoted him saying that Israel in intentionally obstructing the Palestinian legislative elections scheduled for May 22.
Al-Ayyam also said in a report that Washington confirmed that the Palestinian elections is an issue for the Palestinian leadership and people and that it did not want to comment on the possibility of postponing the elections over Israel’s refusal to allow them in occupied East Jerusalem.
The Israeli measures in the occupied territories were also highlighted on the front page of the dailies.
Al-Quds said Israeli settlers attacked herders in the south of the West Bank and broke into an archeological site in the north.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israeli police detained a boy and attacked people near Damascus Gate in occupied East Jerusalem, while al-Ayyam said residents of Silwan neighborhood of East Jerusalem confronted an attempt by settlers to seize a plot of land, and that Jewish terrorist organizations have called for attacking Palestinians in East Jerusalem.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Jewish terrorist groups said they are going “to bash the heads (of the Palestinians) and bury them alive.”
On the political front, al-Hayat al-Jadida said Foreign Minister Riyad Malki is continuing his Europe tour and was holding talks in the United Kingdom focusing his tour on getting European support for pressuring Israel to allow holding the Palestinian elections in occupied East.
It quoted member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Ahmad Majdalani, saying the Palestinian leadership is going to hold a meeting soon to discuss the latest with the elections.
It also said Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi stressed the importance of resuming Palestinian-Israeli negotiations.
It said a complaint was filed against Florida State University for its racist policy against a Palestinian student.
Coronavirus was also highlighted on the front page of the three dailies, which said that 18 people have died in Palestine due to the virus while 1748 new cases were recorded yesterday.
