RAMALLAH, Tuesday, April 06, 2021 (WAFA) – The recent developments in neighboring Jordan and President Mahmoud Abbas’ remarks on this issue were highlighted on the front page of today’s issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.

Al-Ayyam daily said that Jordan’s former crown prince, Hamza bin al-Hussein, reaffirmed his loyalty to King Abdullah II following a meeting with his uncle, Prince Hassan.

Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported Prince Hamza stating in a declaration to Jordan’s monarch: “I place myself in the hands of his majesty the King. I hereby affirm that I shall remain observant to the covenant of the forefathers and loyal to their legacy, walking their path …”

Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted President Abbas stating that he was following developments in Jordan with great interest “because this matter concerns us as much as it matters to Jordan.”

Al-Quds said President Abbas left the occupied Palestinian territories for Germany for “routine medical checkups.”

The dailies highlighted the latest statistics on the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak in the occupied territories.

They said that 2,634 Palestinians tested positive for the novel coronavirus and 10 others died of it in the West Bank and the besieged Gaza Strip.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida added that the Palestinian Health Ministry started to vaccinate teachers of grades 1-6 in elementary schools as the schools are expected to resume in-class teaching on Sunday.

Al-Ayyam said 54 Palestinians contracted the virus and two others died of it in occupied East Jerusalem in the last three days.

Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh was reported in al-Ayyam saying the fact there are multiple electoral lists reflects the Palestinian people’s thirst for practicing elections.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that the Israeli occupation authorities released Rushdi Abu Mokh, a Palestinian citizen of Israel, after spending 35 years behind bars.

They said that Ezzidden Manasrah, a Palestinian poet, passed away due to Covid-19.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that the Israeli occupation forces raided the northern Jordan Valley community of Khirbet Humsa.

According to al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam, the occupation authorities and settlers set up mobile homes on lands belonging to Asira al-Qibliya village, south of Nablus, and Tuqu‘ town, east of Bethlehem, as a prelude to construct new colonial settlement outposts.

Regionally, the difficult talks on the formation of a new Israeli government also dominated the front-page headlines.

Al-Quds reported that the formation of an Israeli government encounters obstacles as Israeli President Reuven Rivlin threatens to hold another round of elections, the fifth in two years.

Al-Ayyam said in this regard that the consultations initiated by Rivlin with different Israeli political parties on the government formation have reached an impasse.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida published a feature story on an art exhibition in Beirut featuring the works of Russian painters depicting the history of Palestine.
