RAMALLAH, Monday, April 05, 2021 (WAFA) – The recent developments in neighboring Jordan, which officials said aimed at destabilizing the country, were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
The main headline on this story in al-Hayat al-Jadida daily said: “In a telephone call with the king of Jordan, the President (says) we stand with Jordan and his Majesty the King in facing the challenges.”
Al-Ayyam daily’s main headline said: “Amman: Prince Hamza and the detainees planned to disrupt security and stability and they were in touch with foreign parties.”
The third daily, al-Quds, said in the main front-page story headline: “Jordan announced burying the sedition and foiling disruption of stability.”
In other stories, Al-Quds said the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem forced a Palestinian resident of occupied East Jerusalem to demolish his own house to avoid paying high costs if the municipality carries out the demolition, and that Israeli settlers chopped 100 olive trees in the northern West Bank village of Qusra.
Al-Ayyam said the settlers began to build a new settlement outpost and seized a spring in the occupied Jordan Valley.
The upcoming Palestinian legislative elections occupied front-page space with al-Hayat al-Jadida saying that the Central Elections Commission (CEC) announced the mechanism for objections to the list and names of candidates.
Al-Quds said the CEC has so far certified more than 70 groups to monitor the elections, 7,000 monitors, and 1250 journalists.
It quoted Fatah official, Hussein al-Sheikh, saying that there are still contacts with incarcerated Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti, who formed his own elections list, and that his movement is in the process of coming up with a national position regarding elections in East Jerusalem.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Mahmoud Aloul, deputy head of Fatah, stressing the importance of holding the elections also in occupied East Jerusalem.
It said there is a Palestinian consensus on refusing to hold elections without Jerusalem.
Al-Ayyam quoted Hamas saying that there is an agreement on having a national unity government regardless of the outcome of the elections.
Coronavirus in Palestine and the region was also highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
They said 25 people have died of the disease and 2806 new corona cases were recorded in Palestine yesterday as active cases surged.
Al-Ayyam said Gaza expects a rise in the number of new cases in the coming days.
