RAMALLAH, Sunday, March 14, 2021 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic-language dailies focused today on the government's announcement yesterday of a five-day extension of current lockdown measures in the West Bank, due to the excessively high number of daily coronavirus infections registered in Palestine over the past few days.
Al-Quds, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida also focused on the overall situation of the coronavirus outbreak in Palestine, and said 27 deaths from coronavirus and 1784 infections were registered in the country yesterday.
The three dailies reported that twelve members of the US Congress have called on the Biden administration to oppose Israeli annexation of occupied Palestinian lands, to condemn Israeli demolition of Palestinian homes, and to officially rescind his predecessor’s Peace to Prosperity plan.
The dailies said at least seven COVID-19 patients died yesterday in a public hospital in Salt, Jordan, when the hospital ran out of oxygen supply, forcing the country's health minister to resign over public uproar.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit condemned yesterday the Czech Republic's opening of an embassy office accredited to Israel in occupied Jerusalem.
The three dailies reported that several Palestinians sustained injuries yesterday in separate attacks by hardcore Israeli settlers across the occupied West Bank, mainly in the villages of Huwwara and Burin in Nablus province.
Al-Quds said injuries were reported among Palestinian civilians yesterday during clashes with Israeli occupation forces in the villages of Kafr Qaddum and Silwad in the West Bank.
Al-Ayyam said a Palestinian family from the occupied Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan embarked last night on emptying their home after the Israeli municipality informed them that the home will be demolished soon for lack on an Israeli-issued construction permit.
Al-Ayyam said representatives of the Palestinian factions are due to commence a new round of intra-Palestinian dialogue in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on Monday.
