RAMALLAH, Saturday, October 31, 2020 (WAFA) – Juma Ibrahim Adam, from Jericho, is now 51 years old. Adam has until now spent 32 years of his life in Israeli prisons for resisting its occupation of his homeland. He is serving a life sentence.
According to Palestinian prisoner support organizations, Juma is one of 29 prisoners Israel was supposed to release in March 2014 in a deal struck by then United States Secretary of State John Kerry to push forward Palestinian-Israeli negotiations.
After Israel has released prisoners in three batches as part of the deal, it reneged on the fourth and final batch that included Juma and 28 others held since before the 1993 signing of the Oslo Accords that set the decades-old Palestinian-Israeli conflict on a final peace path.
However, the peace process was disrupted when Israel reneged on its promise to release the fourth batch and since then it never recuperated.
Juma has lost his mother while in prison and Israel refuses to allow the only brother that lives in Palestine to visit him on security allegations. The rest of his brothers and sisters live abroad.
Meanwhile, according to the Jenin office of the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS), three prisoners from the Jenin district in the north of the West Bank are starting their 18th year in Israeli prions for resisting its occupation, two to them sentenced to life in prison and the third to 25 years.
A fourth prisoner also from the same district is starting his 20th year behind bars out of a 24-year sentence.
