Presidency warns E1 settlement tenders and escalating colonist violence threaten to push region toward uncontrollable situation

RAMALLAH, August 20, 2026 (WAFA) - Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, warned today of the grave dangers posed by Israel’s settlement tenders in the E1 area, which he said are rejected and condemned, as well as the escalating violence by Israeli colonists and daily killings against Palestinians.

Abu Rudeineh said Israel’s continued policies against the Palestinian people are pushing the region toward a dangerous and potentially uncontrollable situation.

He stressed that there can be neither lasting peace nor stability without Jerusalem and the complete end of the Israeli occupation, reiterating that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital is the only path toward achieving peace.

The presidential spokesperson warned that Israel’s continued disregard for international legitimacy and its resolutions would keep the region trapped in an endless cycle of wars and conflicts.

He said that partial initiatives and plans lacking a genuine political horizon will not bring security or peace to anyone, stressing that there is no alternative to ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Abu Rudeineh also said that confidence in international statements of condemnation and denunciation is eroding, calling on the international community to move beyond statements and take serious, concrete measures to defuse the ongoing crises and conflicts.

He urged the international community to take effective steps to compel the Israeli authorities to halt their aggression, respect international law, and fully implement resolutions of international legitimacy.
