BRUSSELS, October 18, 2011 (WAFA) - European Union Foreign Policy Chief, Catherine Ashton, Tuesday accused the Israeli government of not committing to the peace process, following its decision to build a new settlement in East Jerusalem and to legalize settlement outposts.
In a statement, Ashton said: “According to international law, settlements are illegal, therefore, the Israeli decisions must be revoked.”
She added that the Israeli decision to build new housing units in the settlement of Givat Hamatos, which will separate Jerusalem from Bethlehem, is disturbing and does not contribute to building confidence in negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.
