CPI Declines by 0.84% in OPT

RAMALLAH, December 14, 2008 (WAFA)- The overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Palestinian Territory decreased by 0.84% compared to October 2008, and increased by 7.88% compared to November 2007. In the first eleven months of 2008, the average increase of prices was 10.17% compared to the corresponding period of year 2007.

 

According to a report of the Palestinian Central Bureau Of Statistics (PCBS), analysis of consumer price developments for November indicated declines in the major expenditure groups. The group that witnessed the biggest declination was transportation (- 3.38%), and the smallest decline was in recreational, cultural goods & services (- 0.03%)

 

At the same time, there were increases in other expenditure groups. The highest increase was in the sector of education (+ 0.29%) and the lowest was in restaurants and cafes (+ 0.11%).

 

Palestinian Territory regions had different overall CPI developments; in the Gaza Strip CPI declined by - 1.05%, in the West Bank (excluding East Jerusalem) by - 0.99%, and in East Jerusalem by  - 0.46%.
