RAMALLAH, April 13, 2026 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas of the State of Palestine posthumously awarded the Star of Merit of the Order of the State of Palestine to the late national leader Qadri Abu Bakr.

The honor was granted during a meeting held on Monday evening at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah with the family of the late leader.

The meeting was attended by Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh, Head of the Presidency Office Intisar Abu Amara, Governor of Ramallah and al-Bireh Governorate Leila Ghannam, Minister of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Raed Abu al-Hummus, Head of the Palestinian Prisoner’s Club Abdullah Zaghari, and a number of senior officials.

President Abbas awarded the decoration in recognition of Abu Bakr’s distinguished national career and struggle, and in appreciation of his leadership role and continued contributions in serving his homeland and the Palestinian people on the path toward freedom, sovereignty, and independence.
