UN says there is no military solution to the Middle East conflict

NEW YORK, April 13, 2026 (WAFA) – The United Nations said that after weeks of destruction and hardship, it has become clear that there is no military solution to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

According to a UN statement issued on Monday, spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said that although no agreement was reached during talks hosted by Pakistan between the United States and Iran in Islamabad, the discussions themselves reflected the seriousness of engagement by both sides and represented a positive and meaningful step toward resuming dialogue.

He explained that given the depth of the existing differences, an agreement cannot be reached overnight, stressing that the UN Secretary-General calls for the continuation of talks in a constructive spirit aimed at reaching an agreement.

Dujarric emphasized that the ceasefire must be fully maintained and that all violations must stop, adding that all parties to the conflict must respect freedom of navigation, including in the Strait of Hormuz, in accordance with international law.
