RAMALLAH, April 14, 2026 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission reported that the total number of Palestinian and Arab prisoners in Israeli prisons reached over 9,600 as of the beginning of April 2026.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the Commission, the Palestinian Prisoners' Society (PPS), and the Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association said that the number of female detainees has reached 86, including two who have been in detention since before the genocide that began on October 7, 2023, and 25 who are held under administrative detention.
The statement also indicated that the number of child prisoners (junils) under the age of 18 reached approximately 350, distributed between Ofer and Megiddo prisons, noting that there are two girls in Damon prison. It added that by the end of 2025, the number of children held under administrative detention had reached 180.
The number of administrative detainees in Israeli prisons rose to over 3,532 by the beginning of April 2026. This number includes women and children, the majority of whom are former prisoners who have spent years in Israeli prisons. Other categories of detainees include school and university students, journalists, human rights activists, lawyers, engineers, doctors, academics, members of parliament, activists, workers, and first-degree relatives of slain Palestinians and prisoners held in Israeli prisons, including sisters of the slain ones and wives of prisoners.
Meanwhile, the number of detainees classified by the Israeli occupation as "unlawful combatants," according to the Prison Service, reached 1,251 as of the beginning of April 2026. This figure does not include those held in Israeli military detention centers.
It affirmed that the number of sick detainees in Israeli occupation prisons has increased in the aftermath of the genocide. The vast majority suffer from pre-existing conditions at the time of their detention, are wounded, or have developed serious illnesses as a result of genocidal policies that have subjected them to harsh and repressive conditions. Their numbers continue to rise amid ongoing policies of torture and medical abuse, including the denial of treatment.
The number of prisoners who have died in Israeli custody since 1967 has reached 326, including 89 who died following the genocide. These are only the known identities of those who died in Israeli custody, while dozens of other detainees from Gaza remain forcibly disappeared.
The number of Palestinian detainees who died in custody, whose bodies are being withheld by the occupation, reached 97 before and after the genocide.
