OIC Warns of Deteriorating Situation in Gaza Strip
Jeddah, February 3, 2008 (WAFA) - The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) warned Sunday of the seriousness of the situation in the Palestinian territories, especially in the Gaza Strip where Israeli aggression was continuing against the Palestinian people.
In a report issued on the occasion of the extraordinary session of the Foreign Ministers Expanded Executive Committee of the OIC, the organization said the Palestinian crisis had witnessed dangerous developments of late, namely the unprecedented escalation of violence that affected all walks of life.
It added that the Israeli aggression came at a time when the international community was rallying support for resuming the peace process, which indicated that Israel was always seeking to thwart efforts for peace.
It noted the continued Israeli construction of settlements in Jerusalem, and the political assassinations, as well as the holding of some 10,000 Palestinians in Israeli jails.
The OIC report also pointed to the siege imposed on Gaza Strip and the closing of crossings, which led to the deterioration in conditions in the area, noting efforts of the OIC in supporting Palestinians and to alleviate their suffering.
