President Abbas Holds Significant Talks with His Majesty King Abdullah II
AMMAN, November 21, 2007(WAFA)- President Mahmoud Abbas and His Majesty King Abdullah II held on Wednesday significant talks on efforts exerted to push the peace process forward on eve of preparations taken to hold the international Annapolis conference next Tuesday.
President Abbas briefed His Majesty on the outcome of his recent meeting with Israeli Premier Ehud Olmert within preparations for the forthcoming peace conference as well on the Palestinian stance on the Israeli proposals.
Following the meeting, President told reporters of the necessity of having a unified Arab stance on the Annapolis meeting, adding that this is what he has agreed upon with His Majesty and the consultations between the two sides will continue.
President also expressed appreciation of efforts exerted by His Majesty to support the peace process. He also voiced Jordan’s continued support to the Palestinians, under His Majesty’s leadership, to achieve their aspirations, regain their legitimate rights and establish and independent Palestinian state.
For his part, His Majesty made it clear that he will intensify consultation and contacts with Arab leaders over the next days to crystallize a unified Arab position that supports the Palestinian stance at the Annapolis conference.
King Abdullah urged Israel to hold serious negotiations and adopt positive positions that contribute to reaching permanent and comprehensive solution in the region, affirming the importance of addressing the Syrian and Lebanese tracks, mainly the issue of the Golan Heights and seizes the current opportunity to solve the Arab-Israeli conflict.
