Germany's EU Presidency : Commitment to Peace Process EU's Top Priority

BREMEN, March 31, 2007, (WAFA)- Germany's EU Presidency considered the reiteration of the Arab Summit in Riyadh on commitments to the Arab peace initiative in the Middle East is highly encouraging.

Federal Foreign Minister Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier told reporters, before the opening session of the EU Foreign Ministers in Bremen overnight, that commitment to the peace process in the Middle East is the top priority of the EU external policy, adding the Arab peace initiative would encourage the resumption of peace talks between Palestinians and Israelis.

For his part, European Union's (EU) High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Chief Javier Solana said that the Arab peace initiative is an opportunity to achieve peace in the Middle East and it should be seized. Solana called for lifting embargo on the Palestinian government, adding that it is a mistake for the EU to boycott this government.
