Seven killed, others wounded, in Israeli bombing on town in southern Lebanon

 

BEIRUT, April 9, 2026 (WAFA) – Seven Lebanese citizens were martyred and others wounded on Thursday as a result of Israeli bombing of the town of Abbasiya in Tyre, southern Lebanon.

The National News Agency reported that Israeli airstrikes targeted several villages in southern Lebanon, amid appeals from families south of the Litani River for international evacuation, after the area was placed under complete siege following the destruction of the Qasmiyeh Bridge.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that Wednesday's Israeli airstrikes resulted in the killing of 182 civilians and the wounding of 890, bringing the total death toll from the Israeli offensive since March 2 to April 8 to 1,739 while 5,873 others were wounded.

Meanhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced that Thursday is a national day of mourning for the martyrs and wounded of the occupation’s aggression, which affected hundreds of citizens. He also announced the closure of public administrations, institutions, and municipalities, the lowering of flags on them, and the modification of regular programs on radio and television stations to be appropriate to this aggression.
