RAMALLAH, Saturday, June 20, 2020 (WAFA) – The large number of coronavirus cases recorded yesterday in one day in Palestine and the meeting of Fatah Central Committee held in Ramallah last night were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.

Al-Ayyam put the figure of 75, the number of corona cases recorded yesterday in the West Bank, in a red square hinting at the dangerous rise in the number of infected people. It said 54 of these cases were in the Hebron district and 17 in Nablus.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Quds also highlighted the recent coronavirus figures on their front page, as well as in Israel and worldwide, but each one also highlighted as its main story a different topic, even though all the stories were shared by all three dailies.

The main front-page story in al-Hayat al-Jadida focused on the Fatah Central Committee meeting highlighting Fatah stressing that it rejects “all plots aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause.”

Al-Quds, meanwhile, highlighted the weekly West Bank confrontations and said that dozens of Palestinians were injured in the Israeli army crackdown on the protesters against Israeli settlements and annexation plans.

The paper said, quoting al-Mayadin satellite channel, that Jordan informed the United State and Israel that it will withdraw from the peace agreement with Israel if the latter goes ahead and annexes parts of the occupied West Bank.

It said a large number of people held the Friday prayer at Al-Isaaf cemetery in Jaffa, which the municipality wants to remove in order to build a housing project on its land.

In addition, 60,000 worshippers held the Friday prayer at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, said the paper.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Malki saying that the UN Human Rights Council has adopted Palestine’s resolution hold Israel accountable for the annexation.

It said 200 members of the US Congress plan to sign a petition against the Israeli annexation plan.

Al-Ayyam said 20 Palestinians who were stuck in Canada due to the corona crackdown have returned home yesterday.

It said, quoting the Israeli human rights organization, B’Tselem, saying that Israeli soldiers shoot on purpose from an ambush at the legs of Palestinian workers.
