RAMALLAH, March 31, 2026 (WAFA) - The Central Elections Commission (CEC) announced today, Tuesday, that the final number of eligible voters for the local authorities’ elections scheduled for April 25, 2026, has reached one million and forty thousand voters (male and female), constituting 67% of the total number of citizens registered in the voters’ registry.

The CEC also announced the publication of the final list of candidates and electoral lists nominated for village councils and municipal councils, respectively, on its website (www.elections.ps).

The final list indicates that 184 out of 421 local authorities scheduled for elections, including the city of Deir al-Balah, will witness competition, with 324 electoral lists competing for 91 municipal councils, and 1,358 candidates competing for 93 village councils.

Additionally, statistics show that 197 local authorities (both municipalities and village councils) will form their councils through acclamation, while 40 local authorities have no electoral lists or candidates nominated for their councils.

The CEC indicated that the approval of the final list followed the conclusion of challenges, appeals, and withdrawals, in accordance with the previously announced legal timelines for the electoral process.

Moreover, the CEC pointed out that, in accordance with the law, electoral campaigning will commence on April 10, 2026, and continue for 14 days. Any campaigning activities prior to that date are prohibited and constitute a violation of the law. The Commission emphasized the importance of all lists and candidates adhering to the regulations governing the electoral process.
