RAMALLAH, October 13, 2026 (WAFA) – Fatah Central Committee welcomed on Tuesday the PLO Executive Committee’s decision to postpone legislative elections.
During a meeting in Ramallah, the Fatah Central Committee discussed the latest political and field developments, amid escalating attacks by Israeli occupation forces and colonists across the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the dire humanitarian situation in the genocide-stricken Gaza Strip, in addition to several internal organizational issues concerning Fatah.
The Committee said the decision, endorsed by President Mahmoud Abbas, was taken in light of the continued Israeli escalation and measures targeting the Palestinian people, security conditions and obstacles that prevent the elections from being held in a free and fair atmosphere, and the need to ensure the participation of Palestinians in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip. It also cited the continued crimes committed by the occupation and colonists across the Palestinian territories, as well as logistical challenges.
The Committee stressed the importance of continuing comprehensive national dialogue with all Palestinian political forces and factions and allowing these efforts sufficient time to advance, in such a way that strengthens national unity and preserves the unity of the land, the cause, and the national decision.
