Jordan denounces Israeli law imposing death penalty on Palestinian prisoners

AMMAN, March 31, 2026 (WAFA) – The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates denounced the approval by the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, of a law imposing the death penalty on Palestinian prisoners, deeming it a violation of international law and international humanitarian law.

The Ministry's official spokesperson, Ambassador Fouad Majali, affirmed the Kingdom's absolute rejection and condemnation of this racist, discriminatory, and illegitimate law, which contravenes the rules of international law prohibiting the imposition of control over occupied territories through legislation imposed by the occupying power.

He also affirmed  that legislation is part of a systematic Israeli policy targeting the Palestinian people and their inalienable rights to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on Palestinian national soil, in accordance with the two-state solution.

Majali called on the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities and take immediate and effective action to prevent Israel from implementing this law and to compel it to cease its invalid decisions, legislation, and unilateral and illegal practices that target the Palestinian people and their presence on their land.
