RAMALLAH, March 30, 2026 (WAFA) – The Union of Private and Non‑Governmental Hospitals in Palestine warned today of serious repercussions for the Palestinian healthcare system due to the ongoing financial crisis caused by Israel's withholding of Palestinian tax revenues.

For nearly 11 months, Israel has been withholding the entire Palestinian clearance revenues, which constitute about 68% of the revenues of the Palestinian Ministry of Finance, creating a severe financial strain affecting the health sector across Palestine.

In a statement issued on Monday, the union stressed that the acute financial difficulties facing An-Najah National University Hospital are not an isolated case but rather reflect a broader reality experienced by all private and non-governmental hospitals due to the accumulation of unpaid government dues and long delays in payments.

It explained that the continuation of this situation has placed unprecedented pressure on hospitals, including difficulties in securing medicines and medical supplies and reaching borrowing limits, putting the entire healthcare sector at risk of reducing or suspending some services.

The union warned that if the crisis persists without immediate intervention, it could lead to serious consequences for the entire healthcare system, noting that some hospitals have already stopped providing certain services or receiving medical referrals, while others are facing severe challenges that could soon force them to halt services altogether.

It urged relevant government authorities to take immediate action and adopt practical solutions, including scheduling and paying the accumulated financial obligations, in order to ensure the continued functioning of hospitals and safeguard people's right to healthcare.

It reaffirmed that hospitals will continue to fulfill their humanitarian and national responsibilities within the available means despite the difficult circumstances.
