RAMALLAH, April 25, 2018 (WAFA) – Fighting in and around Yarmouk refugee camp on the outskirts of the Syrian capital, Damascus, has resulted in the displacement of a large number of Palestinian refugees, according to the director of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s (PLO) Political Department in Syria Anwar Abdul-Hadi.
He told Voice of Palestine on Wednesday that fighting continued in the vicinity of the Palestinian refugee camp, particularly al-Hajar al-Aswad area, located just few kilometers south of Damascus.
The Syrian army along with Palestinian forces in Yarmouk started last week an operation to oust terrorist groups, particularly Daesh (ISIS), that took base inside the camp.
Abdul-Hadi noted that the fighting and Daesh suicide bombings has resulted in the displacement of a large number of Palestinian refugees. He said few hundreds remained in the fighting area.
He pointed out that he met the Syrian Reconciliation Minister Ali Haidar, and both of them discussed the need to provide aid to Palestinian refugees and reconstruct the refugee camps following the evacuation of the militants before proceeding to secure the return of refugees to their camps.
