JERUSALEM, July 31, 2017 (WAFA) – Israeli security forces caused huge damage to historical documents at Al-Aqsa Mosque during the two weeks of crisis over the Muslim holy site, an official said on Monday.
Head of the Manuscripts Department at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Radwan Amro, said that "the occupation authorities have caused huge and extensive destruction to the libraries and facilities at Al-Aqsa Mosque as well as the manuscripts section.”
He said in a voice recording circulated to the media in Jerusalem that specialized committees are continuing to assess and survey the damage, and will provide the official bodies with all the results once they are completed.
There was concern about Israeli theft of important documents from Al-Aqsa departments relating to property and Muslim endowment in Jerusalem during the events of the past two weeks at Al-Aqsa Mosque when none of the Waqf officials, who are in charge of the mosque compound, or any Palestinian were present inside the compound.
Waqf media official Firas Dibs denied rumors about theft of manuscripts and documents from the mosque.
He said a Waqf technical committee has just started to survey the situation in the mosque and that it will be some time before it presents it final conclusion.
