RAMALLAH, September 7, 2016 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas’ remarks during his official visit to Warsaw hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies on Wednesday.

Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported Abbas as expressing his commitment to peace as an “irreversible choice” that serves the “interest of Palestine and Israel alike.”

He was reported in al-Ayyam as stressing the need to convene an international peace conference.

He was also reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida as stating that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu put off a meeting that was planned between the two of them this week in Moscow.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam highlighted Russian Middle East envoy Mikhail Bogdanov’s meeting with Secretary-General of President’s Office Tayeb Abdel Rahim in Ramallah.

Adbel Rahim was reported in al-Quds as expressing his support for Russian efforts aimed to break the peace process deadlock.

Bogdanov was reported in al-Quds as expressing his opposition for any attempt to foil the  ]peaceful[ settlement in the region.

He was also reported in al-Ayyam as affirming the recognition of the Palestinian state is “irreversible” and that its establishment would basically contribute to combating terrorism.

The three dailies reported Israeli artillery shelled several sites to the east of Gaza and northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahiya. Al-Ayyam added that the shelling caused damages to Palestinian houses in Beit Lahiya town.

Al-Quds said Israeli police announced that Mustafa Nimir, shot dead by Israeli forces during an  overnight raid into the Jerusalem camp of Shufat, did not attempt to carry out a car-ramming attack.

Highlighting the case of Palestinian hunger-striking brothers Muhammad and Mahmoud Balboul, the dailies said Israeli Supreme Court is set to hear an appeal regarding their immediate release.

Highlighted the fatal collapse of Tel Aviv underground car park, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said four Palestinian construction workers were killed in the crash. Al-Ayyam added four others were injured in the collapse.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the body of one of the victims, identified as Ahed al-Rimawi, was retrieved from the debris of the collapsed structure.

Highlighting detention raids across the West Bank, al-Ayyam said Israeli military detained 21 Palestinians, including four children, from the West Bank.

The dailies also said only 25 close family members were allowed to attend the funeral and burial of Muhammad Abu Khalaf, 20, at al-Mugahidin Cemetery in Jerusalem. Abu Khalaf‘s corpse was released about seven months after being shot dead by Israeli police following an alleged stabbing attack in Jerusalem in February.
