Israel to demolish homes near Hebron

HEBRON, September 7, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli forces on Wednesday informed owners of three Palestinian homes in the town of Tarqoumia, to the west of Hebron, that their homes will be demolished under the pretext they were built without a permit, according to local sources.

The town is located in Area C of the West Bank, which is under full Israeli military control.

Israel does not issue construction permits to Palestinians in Area C, which makes around 64 percent of the area of the West Bank, forcing many to build on their land without obtaining a permit.

According to a report by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Israel’s Civil Administration, the military governing body that operates in the West Bank, issued 14,000 demolition orders against Palestinian homes in Area C between 1988 and 2014 of which more than 11,000 are still outstanding and could result in the demolition of up to 13,000 structures owned by Palestinians, including houses, sheds and animal shelters.
